Mazlom Abdi: The issue of ISIS detainees can only be resolved at the United Nations table
The commander-in-chief of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, said in a tweet on his personal account on Twitter this evening, that resolving the issue of ISIS detainees held by their forces “is linked to the presence of real Syrian representatives in Geneva.”
“Certainly, the issue of 12,000 ISIS detainees we have can only be resolved in Geneva and at the United Nations table, and the determination of their fate within the political settlement in Syria under the auspices of the United Nations – as stated by the French Foreign Minister – is linked to the presence of real representatives of the Syrians in Geneva. “
Abdi’s statements came in line with the statement of the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, today, in which he said that the ISIS elements detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces, cannot be tried in Iraq because of the conditions in this country, explaining that their fate is within the political settlement in Syria under the auspices of the United Nations.
The SDF and the Autonomous Administration’s forces in northern and eastern Syria have previously called for the establishment of an international court to try ISIS mercenaries held by the SDF.
For sure the issue of SDF-held 12,000 ISIS detainees can only be solved in Geneva & under the UN umbrella. Indeed as stated today by the French FM @JY_LeDrian this problem can be included in the discussions in Geneva. This can only happen if the real representatives are included.
